Butterfly drinking
Went out this morning to water the front gardens, especially the poor dehydrated Japanese Painted Ferns. A flock of little white moths immediately rose from whatever I watered, shining in the sun.

Then here was this butterfly, which stayed around, often opening and closing its wings as if to dry them; maybe it had just come out of its cocoon.  It stayed in this spot among the shadows of the grass for quite a while, so I think it had found a little puddle to drink from.  It was black with iridescent dots of cobalt blue along the wings.  I was intrigued by the long shadows of its wing and of the oak leaf, and sorry I haven't bought a new camera with a better zoom.
